vauxhall astra mass air flow sensor problems

Where shall i start looking for a new one if so, not vauxhall I'm hoping, can I get this from any general car repair place? If you unplugged the MAF sensor and there was no difference at all, then i would say it's most probably that. It will be on the pipe coming out the air filter box, and look for a largish connector (unplug to test as above).Īlso has an engine light come on the dashboard before? in a vauxhall this would indicate some sort of emissions fault.just realised something, I unplugged the switch on top of the airflow pipe, (the one with the arrow on it saying 'Air Flow' front left of the engine bay) and it didnt make any diffferent at all, only thing it did do was bring up the car and spanner icon on the dashboard, as there was no difference do you think this is it? I'm going to check the connector first just in case it's dirty contacts but wondered if it was common for both these fault codes to be reported at the same time.Just unplug the lead to it, and if there is no difference then the MAF sensor is broken, as if it is working properly unplugging it would have a noticable effect. Now both these sensors are housed in the same replaceable part and I'm wondering why they would both fail at the same time. These are permanent faults and resetting them via the Tech2 only results in the fault coming back when the ECU light comes on. I bought a serial Tech2 diagnostic interface (by the way the software with this is absolutely crap - the text is all in Hungarian!) which shows you which sensors are faulty. When it comes on the engine jumps momentarily but then drives reasonably ok. It can stay on momentarily or for minutes at a time. The Engine management light comes on randomly (can be from cold or whenever it feels like it).

First it was just momentarily, a coupl eof times a week, but has now developed into a more permanent indication. Over the past couple of weeks my Engine management light has started to come on. I have a 1.8 Vectra (yr 2000) with an XE1 engine.
